I Can Breathe Easier Now ...

The Times gives us the good news:

It opened on Friday but didn’t wind up on any weekend boxoffice charts ...

It’s a kid-friendly movie, but it only screens once daily: 1 p.m. on school days, 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday...

But in the world of animation, “The Missing Lynx: Paws on the Run” could prove to be one of the year’s most significant releases ... The news is crucial because for the last couple of weeks, the number of entries in the category appeared to have stalled at 15. If 15 movies qualify, the category will have three nominees; if 16 do so, it’ll jump to five ...

I'm a guy who thinks they need more animated feature nominees.

Because I'm a guy who thinks the Academy Awards are very, very important.

For commerce.

The more animated nominees there are, the wider the race, the higher the profiles of all the competitors, and the bigger the publicity.

And publicity, animation fans and laborers, is what drives the grosses of animated features to greater heights*, thereby inspiring our corporate masters to make more long-form cartoons and throw a few crumbs our way by employing the artists, writers, and technicians who make them.

* The quality of the product also has something to do with it, but we're talking tonight about the Oscars!

Didn't I see a clip of Missing Lynx here? Wherever I saw it, it looked BAD.
